SEND - Coproduction, Information & Local Offer Group 8 Jan 2020

Overview

A Local Area Inspection was undertaken by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in September 2018 which can be found on the Stockport Local Offer

The inspection was to determine the local areas’ effectiveness in identifying and meeting the needs of children and young people who have special educational needs and/or disabilities and evaluate how much progress has been made in implementing the SEND Code of Practice 0-25 years, since its implementation in September 2014.

Over the last year the CCG and Council has continued to hold a number of public engagement events, including workshops, drop-in meetings, surveys and social events, inviting parents, carers and young people to share their lived experience and to work with the organisations in improving local SEND services.

The work has involved over 400 families and young people, who have been actively involved and a proactive programme is in place to continually engage, inform and involve local communities.  This has also included the development of a SEND Charter, coproduction plans and the development of a SEND Young Ambassadors group.

In addition there are parent representatives on the SEND Board and all the SEND work streams, to ensure that improvements are coproduced, which has included representation on interviews for all roles related to special education and needs.

Why We Are Consulting

Listening and co-producing services with children and young people that have special educational needs and disabilities, and their families, is an essential part of the work we do.

By sharing decisions and understanding how services can be improved means that local services are shaped directly by those who use them, through their lived experience.

The CCG, NHS Trust, Council and voluntary organisations continue to work in partnership with families and young people to find out what matters most to them.

What Happens Next

The SEND Group meets regularly to review progress and ensure local families and communities are engaged and able to co-produce local services.
