Children's health has been added as a priority project to the CCG's 2013/14 operational plan. Work will include improvements to children's services in primary care.

Around 20 people attended this year's AGM.

Three presentationswere given:

Gaynor Mullins the Chief Operating Officer, gave anoverview of achievements over 2011-12

Gary Jones, acting Directorfo Finance, gave an overview of the NHS budget and how it was spent

Dr Ranjit Gill, a local GP gave an overview of plans for the future of the local NHS and the priorities for Stockport's new Clinical Commissioning Group.


Achievements 2011-12

This year Stockport achieved:

  • Top Flu vaccine uptake in the country
  • Second best in the North West for access to an NHS dentist
  • Improved access to Mental health services
  • Reduction of Prescribing costs
  • Recovery from a challenging financial position
  • Significant progress on the establishment of NHS Stockport Clinical Commissioning Group


Expenditure was as follows:


The PCT received funding equivalent to £1,600 per patient in the borough, which was split as follows:


Activity levels were high:

  • 93,150 A&E attendances 
  • 110,000 Hospital episodes 
  • 433,470 outpatients consultations
  • over 85,000 Health Visitor appointments
  • approx. 20,000 GP Appointments a week
  • 112,000 Prescriptions per week 
  • 60,736 Sight tests


Clinical Commissioning

All of Stockport's 50 GP Practices will join together to form one Clinical Commissioning Group to manage contracts for local healthcare services.

They will be responsible for:

  • Understanding local health needs
  • Managing the local health budget
  • Delivering services local people need
  • Improving health in Stockport

Unlike the Primary Care Trust, they will not be responsible for:

  • GP contracts or funding
  • Other primrary care contracts (pharmacy / dentistry / optometry)
  • Specialist services - which will be managed by the National Commissioning Board

After engaging widely with local people, our priorites for the first three years will be:

  • Unscheduled Care
  • Long-term Conditions & complex care
  • Demand Management
  • Quality
  • Staying Healthy
  • Reform 

The CCG also wants to make sure that local engagment is used to steer decision making. The following methods will be used to do this:

  • GP Practice patient groups
  • Patient Experience surveys
  • Public Engagement events and surveys
  • Close relations with LINks / Healthwatch
  • a new Patient Panel
  • a Healthwatch representative on the Governing Body
  • and the Governing Body will examine public views before any decisions are taken.




Every year, NHS Stockport holds an Annual General Meeting to let local people know about our progress over the year and ask for input into our future direction.
